Katrina Kaif Fairytale journey from Boom to Rajneeti

September 4th, 2010

Aishwarya Rai has often been sidelined by Katrina Kaif as competitiveness brews high in this cut-throat industry. But, it won’t be a shocker to call Katrina’s ride a fairytale journey from Boom to Rajneeti.

Katrina was 1st seen in a raunchy, obnoxious role in Amitabh Bachchan starring ‘Boom’. Katrina wasn’t a known face that time and was dismissed as just another sleazy foreign babe. However, pendulum soon swung in Katty’s favour after she bumped into Salman Khan who fell for her resplendent charms.

Thereafter, he took unto himself to establish her in the frames of celluloid. Her 1st big break came with ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’, Salman’s home production. Then began Katrina’s fairy tale ride as she went on a signing spree with almost every 2nd producer knocking at her doors. She gave a slew of hits with Akshay Kumar with films like ‘Namastey London’ and even a mindless comic caper ‘Welcome’ rattling the box office.

However, the critics continued to stay unimpressed coz her USP was her milky, syrupy face with hardly an acting bone in her body. With ‘Rajneeti’, she did gain a strong footing coz despite linguistic barriers, she mouthed tough Hindi dialogues and the film was a superhit thanks to powerful performances by Ranbir Kapoor and Manoj Bajpayee.

Call it a luck or blame it on the men’s insane fantasy for her looks, Katrina has become the princess of popcorn with the major chunk of her films declared a hit. It’s only to be seen how long shall her merriment last. Or will her fairy tale come to an agonising halt?

Katrina Kaif-More than just another pretty face

When Katrina Kaif appeared on the screen for the first time in ‘Boom’, critics ripped her apart. She was considered to be another foreign export, who could neither act nor dance, let alone speak Hindi. She was criticized for being too fair and too tall.
The film, too, came under the scanner, so much so that actor Amitabh Bacchan who starred in the film was forced to apologise for his role. This was probably the first time in Indian Cinema an actor apologised for agreeing to be part of a film.
Katrina vanished for a brief period, before reappearing in ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’.The film was a romantic comedy and even though Katrina’s sense of style was appreciated, nobody gave her any marks as far as acting was considered.
With time, her acting and Hindi speaking skills improved and she gave one hit films after other which included Namaste London, Race, Welcome etc.People began noticing the glamour and beauty of this British lady and critics were forced to agree that she is box office material.
It was probably in Kabir Khan’s film New York that her acting was appreciated for the first time. She was not merely a glamour doll in this film. She wowed the critics with her acting and the film earned both critical and commercial appreciation.
Now world’s largest search engine Google has revealed that she is the most searched Bollywood actress in 2009.Well, given her popularity these days, this does not come across a surprise at all and is, in fact, kind of expected.
We hope the gorgeous lady all the best for her future.

Katrina Kaif is politician with cotton sari, chaste Hindi in RAJNEETI!!

42693xcitefun-sonaikatrinaKatrina Kaif, the sizzling hot firang bombshell of bollywood who endeared herself to audiences with her urbane, suave, sexy acts in flicks like ‘Welcome’, ‘Namaste London’, ‘Singh Is Kinng’ etc, is all set to leave her comfort zone and play the part of a cotton sari clad politician in Prakash Jha’s upcoming flick ‘Raajneeti’.

Though the hot Kat has been put opposite such formidable talents like Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgn, Naseeruddin Shah and Ranbir Kapoor, she does not feel under-confident before them in any way. In fact, her role requires her to speak in chaste Hindi in the flick and Katrina was all game for it. She not only delivered all her dialogues to perfection but gave complex to those who took her as the one only capable of enacting dumb or glamour doll acts in the movies.

Sources close to production house say that Katrina Kaif’s character in ‘Raajneeti’ may change the course of her bollywood career and finally give her the much required impetus needed for being taken seriously by producers, where acting was concerned.

Earlier, Katrina Kaif’s Hindi had heavy British accent and hence most of the producers preferred to work with other actresses. Even if they decided to work with Katrina, they would ensure that dubbing was done by someone with natural native accent in Hindi, so that the character did not seem outlandish on celluloid.

Katrina Kaif is also busy with Farah Khan’s latest directorial venture ‘Tees Maar Khan’(opposite Akshay Kumar), which requires her to perform in Madhuri Dixit style. In fact, Farah has already supplied some of choicest Madhuri’s dances on DVD to Katrina to prepare for the job.

Katrina has also bagged a lucrative endorsement deal with Lux brand and now onwards will be its ambassador for its anti ageing soap. This is another positive factor for Katrina Kaif as Lux brand is a sort of indication for the bollywood beauties that they have reached the pinnacle of success in the tinsel town and are being counted among the best.

It’s been a wonderful ride so far: Katrina Kaif

katIt’s a departure in every which way for this Bollywood actress on the ascendant. She is playing a deglamorised politician and the Hindi has to be perfect too, but Britain born Katrina Kaif says her role in Rajneeti excites her more because she is now comfortable with the language.

Katrina, who has delivered a string of hits playing the urban hip young woman, gets a makeover in Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti. Dressed in cotton saris and speaking chaste Hindi, this is a challenging role that she’s looking forward to. But the Hindi is passe now for the actress, whose accented Hindi meant that her many early films had to be dubbed.

“I am excited about the part (in Rajneeti), but I am not very excited about speaking Hindi because I spoke Hindi in my last 10 films. It’s a great role and a great film and I certainly hope people enjoy it,” Katrina told IANS over the phone from Dubai.

Rajneeti is Katrina’s first political thriller and she says she wants to keep her options open by not restricting herself to any particular genre.

“If it’s a good film and I enjoy it and I think the audience will enjoy it then I will do it,” said the actress, who has given the most hits in last two years, including romantic comedies Namastey London, Partner and Welcome.

In Rajneeti, she will be seen rubbing shoulders with veterans like Nana Patekar and Naseeruddin Shah along with talented actors Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpai, Arjun Rampal and Bollywood’s new sensation Ranbir Kapoor. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Prakash Jha, it is releasing June 4.

Katrina reportedly had a tough time dubbing for her last outing, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, because director Raj Kumar Santoshi was very particular about her Hindi.

The 25-year-old, who was initially dubbed by professional artists and still faces flak for her pronounced British accent despite a successful Bollywood career, isn’t worried about her Hindi accent. In fact, she is thrilled with the way her career has shaped up.

“It’s been a wonderful ride so far and I’ve had wonderful support from a lot of people. The audience has been very supportive and I hope that I keep getting the opportunity and the good work and as long as that’s there, I am happy,” she said.

Apart for her Hindi in Rajneeti, the actress has also been in the news for watching actress Madhuri Dixit’s videos to prepare for a dance number in Farah Khan’s directorial venture Tees Maar Khan.

“No, I haven’t gone through them (the videos) yet… We have a very high energy, fun Indian song which is kind of an item song and it has some kind of resemblance to the kind of songs that Madhuri was famous for but that’s kind of where it stops,” said Katrina who has once again teamed up with Akshay Kumar in the film.

“Farah is unique as a director and what she gives in her sense of glamour and presentation is something which I am very excited to be part of and I hope that we make a great film,” she added.

Expected to release Dec 24, Tees Maar Khan also stars Akshaye Khanna.

Asked about her reported projects like the Hindi version of The Italian Job and Dostana 2, she said: “At the moment, I am working on Rajneeti and Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan… Anything else is yet to be announced.”

The actress has been recently roped in by Lux as the face of their new variant – Purple Lotus & Cream – a soap with claimed anti-ageing properties.

Katrina Kaif signed opposite Akshay for Tees Maar Khan

January 18th, 2010

By Jilawatan

katrina1_2The news that has been doing the rounds for sometime now is about the search for the heroine of Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder’s flick Tees Maar Khan. The film has been in news since its announcement. First it was Akshay replacing SRK as the lead, followed by the ‘namesake’ casting coup, wherein Akshaye Khanna was roped in for the film.

As far as the heroine for the film was concerned, the rumor mills went overboard with names that ranged from Sonam Kapoor to Deepika Padukone and likes. But, according to Bollywood Hungama’s confirmed sources it is neither Sonam, nor Deepika, because it is Katrina Kaif! When we spoke to Shirish to confirm the news, all that he said was, “I cannot say anything right now. I can only speak about it in a couple of days.” Our source also went onto add that the trio of Akshay, Katrina and Farah have shot a cover page shoot for a daily (which is supposed to be out in a couple of days) to announce the coming on board of Katrina as Tees Maar Khan’s leading lady.

With Katrina coming on board, expectations are bound to be sky-high about Tees Maar Khan, considering the hit track record that Akki-Katz have delivered in the past, like Namastey London, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng to name a few. What remains to be seen is that will Tees Maar Khan follow suit or will it create a new track record?

Anees Bazmee upset with Katrina Kaif

January 16th, 2010

By Jilawatan

Director Anees Bazmee who has worked with Katrina Kaif in films like WELCOME and SINGH IS KINNG has been let down by Kats this time around.
According to latest reports, Anees Bazmee wanted Katrina to work in his upcoming film THANK YOU, but the actress blocked the dates for Farah Khan’s film TEES MAAR KHAN opposite Akshay Kumar instead.

anees-bazmee-katrina-kaif

This breach of trust has not only left Anees Bazmee a bitter man but also in a lurch. Reportedly, the filmmaker has not taken Katrina’s neglect in any good humor and he seems to be in no mood to reconcile to this fact either.

Katrina Kaif RAJNEETI last, desperately seeking filmmakers??

January 2nd, 2010

By Jilawatan

untitled-7-1Heard this?? Katrina Kaif, the sizzling hot babe of bollywood who has been lucky mascot for several of Akshay Kumar and others’ super hit flicks like ‘Namaste London’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Singh Is Kinng’ and more recently ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’(with Ranbir Kapoor), has no films in hand, except Prakash Jha’s ‘Rajneeti’.

Sources close to the actress reveal that Katrina Kaif had earlier been considered by Akshay Kumar starrer flick ‘Tees Maar Khan’ and director Farah Khan was even in favor of her, but things did not work out in the final analysis. It is said that Akshay Kumar wanted some fresh face this time with him in the upcoming mega venture and hence suggested the name of ‘Delhi 6’ girl Sonam Kapoor.

As a result of all this, Katrina Kaif, who had always been favorite of bollywood filmmakers due to her proximity with handsome hunk Salman Khan, has now been left in the lurch.

The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Katrina Kaif has become so desperate that she started calling all the producers and directors( who were familiar with her) to consider her name for their upcoming projects. It is said that this process has continued even from London, where the gorgeous beauty has gone to celebrate New Year with her family.

There were also reports about Katrina Kaif visiting New York to meet some filmmakers as well as her ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ co-star Ranbir Kapoor. The visit had been kept a secret but somehow the beans were spilled from her London home. Ranbir Kapoor is in New York to shoot for his upcoming film ‘Ajaana Anjaani’ with Priyanka Chopra.

The industry watchers are amazed at the turn of events for Katrina Kaif in bollywood and are wondering if all this is due to her reported break up with Salman Khan. It is a fact in bollywood that no one would dare to sign Katrina Kaif if Salman Khan is against her and wants filmmakers not to sign her (remember how filmmakers keep away from Vivek Oberoi due to Salman factor).

There were also talk of Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor secretly dating each other and that was the reason for Salman-Katrina break up. As is well known, Ranbir Kapoor has already broken off from his girlfriend Deepika Padukone and this would have made his union with Katrina easier.
