Why is it so that every second big budget film these days stars either Kareena Kapoor or Katrina Kaif?

About a year ago, this platform had been noticeably broader, including Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Kangna Ranaut. The rest of these names still maintain their positions as the top names of Bollywood, but have been left far behind by the leading Queen B’s. Let’s see why this is so:

The ‘heroines’

The way Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are battling it out right at the top, one wishes that it stays so forever! With both ladies writing and rewriting records with their big-budget, over Rs 100 crore successes, its the top producers who are laughing all the way to the bank.

While Kareena is gaga with the laurels she received from the success of ’3 Idiots’, ‘Golmaal 3′ and ‘Bodyguard’ in quick succession, Katrina knows she is on the dot, with a chartbuster item number like ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ and the good run of ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ on the box office. She now needs a big budget hit like Kareena to reach to the top.

Speaking of future projects, both the actresses have several films lined up with the Khans. ladies have scored the cream However, when it comes to getting the top projects, both Kareena as well as Katrina are pretty much neck to neck. Both of them are enjoying a piece of each of the Khans. In the bargain, Shah Rukh Khan (‘Ra.One’, an untitled film with Yash Chopra), Aamir Khan (‘Dhuaan’, ‘Dhoom 3′), Salman Khan (‘Bodyguard’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’) as well as Imran Khan (‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’, ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’) are enjoying the best of both worlds. Only Saif Ali Khan (‘Agent Vinod’) has placed his loyalities firmly with Kareena.

It can be called a co-incidence of sorts that most of the films that have done well at the ticket window this year star heroines whose names start with the initial K.

Starting with the most experienced Kajol who started the year on a high with the hit MY NAME IS KHAN, where she was paired with her favourite co-star Shah Rukh Khan. She did disappoint a bit with her second and third release, WE ARE FAMILY and TOONPUR KA SUPERRHERO, but her super sensitive act as Mandira in MNIK saved the day for Kajol and her fans.

Then comes the most successful and certainly the numero-uno heroine of Bollywood, Katrina Kaif, who has a super hit in form of RAAJNEETI and her latest release TEES MAAR KHAN too has embarked upon a historic start netting almost 40 crore during the first weekend itself, second only to the biggest DABANGG.

If Katrina is there can Kareena be left far behind? Well, not at all. Kareena Kapoor may have had a bad year with her moth ridden MILENGE MILENGE and WE ARE FAMILY failing at the turnstile but she did recover with the blockbuster GOLMAAL 3 thus ending the year on a high note.

Last but not the least two names that might surprise quite a few, Kangna Ranaut, with her stellar performance in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI and the hugely talented Konkona Sen Sharma with her spontaneously brilliant act in ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE?

Well, so the K factor works not only for Karan Johar but also for the heroines in Bollywood.

Aamir Khan, the most-coveted actor in Bollywood, has spurred a catfight of sorts or so it seems. The actor, who has signed his first movie this year to be directed by Reema Kagti of Honeymoon Travels Ltd fame, has ignited a war between leading Bollywood actresses.

As of now, there is a tug of war going on between Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut and Katrina Kaif for the second lead opposite the actor, after the first lead was bagged by Kareena Kapoor.

And the decision for the second female lead rests with no one else but Aamir Khan. The actor, along with his co-producers and Excel Entertainment, is set to finalise the second female lead for the flick.

Talking about the film, a source told a news daily, “The film goes on floors in February. The casting has to be completed in the next three weeks. All three Katrina, Priyanka and Kangna are very keen to do this film. An Aamir film will be a big feather in each of their caps.”

However it will be tough choice for the perfectionist to make as all three have been friendly with him. “It will be interesting to see who wins the race. At this point of time, all three are running neck to neck,” adds the source.

Nevertheless, it must be mentioned that Bebo is known to be at loggerheads with Katrina and Priyanka. And Bebo’s animosity with Priyanka and Katrina will sure work in favour for Kangna.

Katrina Kaif was fantastic in white at the Spice success bash in Mumbai. The event at Hotel Trident was attended by some of B-town’s biggest personalities.

Twenty-four-year old Kat looked stunning in an elaborate white dress accessorised with pearl chandelier earrings and loose curls.

The event also featured a fashion show which had Kangna Ranaut as the show stopper, walking for designer Suneet Verma.
