Why is it so that every second big budget film these days stars either Kareena Kapoor or Katrina Kaif?

About a year ago, this platform had been noticeably broader, including Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Kangna Ranaut. The rest of these names still maintain their positions as the top names of Bollywood, but have been left far behind by the leading Queen B’s. Let’s see why this is so:

The ‘heroines’

The way Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are battling it out right at the top, one wishes that it stays so forever! With both ladies writing and rewriting records with their big-budget, over Rs 100 crore successes, its the top producers who are laughing all the way to the bank.

While Kareena is gaga with the laurels she received from the success of ’3 Idiots’, ‘Golmaal 3′ and ‘Bodyguard’ in quick succession, Katrina knows she is on the dot, with a chartbuster item number like ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ and the good run of ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ on the box office. She now needs a big budget hit like Kareena to reach to the top.

Speaking of future projects, both the actresses have several films lined up with the Khans. ladies have scored the cream However, when it comes to getting the top projects, both Kareena as well as Katrina are pretty much neck to neck. Both of them are enjoying a piece of each of the Khans. In the bargain, Shah Rukh Khan (‘Ra.One’, an untitled film with Yash Chopra), Aamir Khan (‘Dhuaan’, ‘Dhoom 3′), Salman Khan (‘Bodyguard’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’) as well as Imran Khan (‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’, ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’) are enjoying the best of both worlds. Only Saif Ali Khan (‘Agent Vinod’) has placed his loyalities firmly with Kareena.

Ex-lovers Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are still inseparable. The couple might have broken up, but whenever Katrina needs help she always turns to Salman.

On her recent visit to London, when Katrina had trouble reaching her hotel before the premiere of her film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, her ex beau-cum-best friend saved her day.

Problems started for Katrina after she landed in London from Abu Dhabi, where she had to attend a promotional event first.

The half-hour drive extended to one-and-half hours and Katrina had no idea how far was she from the hotel.

A source explained, “The driver of the car organised for her by Yash Raj Films turned out to be a novice who didn’t know the roads well enough. After being driven around for an hour and a half, Katrina got so irritated that she called for a taxi service. And while waiting for the other cab to arrive, she also called Salman to apprise him of her situation.” The actor was shooting for Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger at that time.

Soon after the other taxi arrived, Katrina hauled her luggage and headed straight to a hotel in South Kensington, where Salman was staying, revealed the source. She requested Salman to organise a car for her with a chauffeur who knew the roads well.

It is learnt that when she reached her hotel later, the representatives of YRF were profusely apologetic for the inconvenience caused to her.

“But Katrina had had enough and she was so upset that she didn’t want to use any transport being arranged by YRF for her to get to the premiere venue,” the source added further.

Unfortunately for Katrina, her troubles didn’t end there. It seems the team of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan reached over an hour late for the premiere. And also, the premiere didn’t go as well as they expected.

“Maybe it wasn’t promoted very well, so naturally the movie’s team was surprised that the crowd wasn’t as huge as they had anticipated. Since they had reached late, they couldn’t spend much time at the venue either because they had to catch a flight to Mumbai,” the source informed.

However, by the time Katrina reached the airport, the check-in counters for her return flight had closed. “Obviously, she wasn’t too pleased with the way her day was going,” the source said, adding that fortunately for her, help came in the form of her co-actor Imran Khan.

“Although he was returning by another airline, Imran helped Katrina secure a reservation on Oman Air, with a stop-over at Muscat,” the source added.

Actually, there has been no radical change when it comes to roles that stars, at least female actors, are offered. Looking back, there was a Chaalbaaz made almost 20 years ago, in which Sridevi essayed a double role, a part any actress would love to do today. But the little change that has come about is definitely for the better.

Slowly, the audience is accepting movies and actors playing parts which, at one time, would have seemed unthinkable. Delhi Belly is one recent example. Seeing how well Imran Khan has been accepted will encourage a lot more actors to experiment with roles. As for star-fees, I can see the money getting better and bigger in the future. But I don’t see the disparity between actors and actresses’ fees, diminishing. I hope that changes, though I think it will take a long time.

The best thing on the endorsement scene is that Indian actors are bagging several international products and will continue to do so. Me being the face of Etihad Airways is an example. But I cannot say the same is happening with the movies, because except for a few cross-over films, generally Indian films or actors don’t have a large audience abroad.

Katrina Kaif has already taken baby steps towards being a guitar player by learning a few important chords. Now, she and Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar are bonding over music. Do we see an album in the making?

Now that Priyanka Chopra has announced her decision to cut a music album, how can Katrina Kaif be left behind? We hear that she is bonding with her Mere Brother Ki Dulhan co-star Ali Zafar.

“Ali and I have definitely hit it off musically. We share a lot of common musical interests that we’re trying to take further. Let’s see where it goes,” Katrina is quoted as saying by a tabloid.

Katrina first learnt the guitar during the making of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara with Farhan Akhtar, but carried the hobby further while working with Ali Zafar in MBKD. Recently, she surprised everyone by playing the guitar live for a promotional event of MBKD while Imran Khan and Ali Zafar sang alongside.

Katrina also has the experience of having crooned a nursery rhyme for a kids’ album by A R Rahman.

Katrina Kaif took to the stage to shake a leg with 75-year-old-actor Dharmendra on talent show ‘India’s Got Talent’.

The actress, who was present on the show along with Imran Khan and Ali Zafar to promote their upcoming film ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’, first took the stage to replay the famous suicide act that Dharamendra played in the cult film ‘Sholay’ and then danced with him to the ‘Dream Girl’ song. Apart from that, the episode witnessed Imran getting totally awestruck by participant Anchal Girdhari’s magical act and Ali jamming with the Madhavas and dedicating a song for Sonali Bendre, who judges the show along with Kirron Kher and Dharmendra.

Actor Imran Khan’s uncanny resemblance to ‘mamu’ Aamir Khan is unmistakable and his co-star Katrina Kaif says that the likeness freaks her out.

The 27-year-old model-turned-actress, who stars alongside Imran in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, says at times she feels she is talking to Aamir and not his nephew.

“He looks like Aamir, he sounds like him. At times I feel it is Aamir and not Imran that I am sitting with and talking to. It freaks me out completely,” Katrina said.

The actress will also be seen sharing screen space with Pakistani singer Ali Zafar, who made his Bollywood debut with the 2010 film Tere Bin Laden.

Katrina, who is donning a rockstar look in the film, says that Zafar was very impatient while teaching her to play the guitar.

“I learnt 10 per cent from Ali and the rest 90 per cent Farhan (Akhtar) taught me. Ali was so impatient with me. After playing for just five minutes, he’d expect me to pay like a rockstar. I couldn’t do that,” said Katrina, who was in the capital to promote the film, releasing on September 9.

The actress, who is seen smoking a beedi in the song Dhunki, says that it was choreographer Bosco from the Bosco-Caesar duo who taught her to hold the beedi.

“Imran and Ali both don’t smoke cigarettes, let alone beedi. So there is no way that they would have taught me to hold a beedi. It was actually Bosco who taught me to hold it while shooting the song,” Kaif said.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan which marks the writing and directing debut of Ali Abbas Zafar, is a romantic comedy revolving around a love triangle.

Just so star-struck Delhi doesn’t miss Bollywood at the ongoing Van Heusen menswear week, we have news that actors Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan will take to the ramp for grand finale designers Karan Johar-Varun Bahl tomorrow.

Although the designers remained tight-lipped, a source said,
“Katrina and Imran have taken time off from their films’ promotions to accommodate this. Both will be flying to Delhi only on the day of the show.”

Insiders reveal that since menswear week in India does not receive as much attention as a womenswear fashion week, both the organisers and designers looked for star power to glam things up.

Both Katrina and Imran are fairly close to designer-filmmaker Karan Johar, while Bahl has been the chosen designer for Imran’s wife Avantika, who wore his creation on their formal engagement. Imran and Katrina are also in news for their upcoming film, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, that releases on September 9.

For their forthcoming Yash Raj Films’movie ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’, the stars got really serious when it came to an important sequence. In this scene, Katrina had to slap Imran. Now being the nephew of Mr. Perfectionist, Imran insisted that Katrina must genuinely slap him to make the scene authentic. However, in the pursuit of the perfect take, poor Imran got slapped a dozen times and was left with a puffy red cheek.

But immediately after the shoot our beauty went on to shower her apologies on him in a chocolaty manner. For, Katrina very sweetly got Imran a box of chocolates as she felt responsible.

Katrina Kaif seems to be enjoying the best of both worlds, what with sharing screen space with a veteran like Salman Khan on one side and then enjoying a romcom outing with much younger Imran Khan. While MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN is exuding good vibes, her item number in Salman Khan’s BODYGUARD has also come at just the right time. Guess from the hot-n-sizzling look in Sheila Ki Jawani, she has pronto moved on to being cute-n-beautiful for her brief appearance in BODYGUARD.

“Well, we were not trying to achieve any particular look here. In any case this is a small part that I have done in this song. I did what I was asked to do. Also choreographer Ganesh Acharya is superb with his dance steps. I enjoyed shaking a leg in BODYGUARD,” she says in a matter of fact tone.

On the other hand with Imran she seems to be quite comfortable as well despite working with him for the first time ever. One can well guess that there was a period of initial awkwardness that she had to encounter due to the first time pairing.

Coming up on September 9th is Yash Raj’s Mere Brother ki Dulhan starring Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif and Ali Zafar. The music for the com-rom has been hitting all the right notes with fans and one of the favorite songs is ‘Choomantar’! To go along with the cool groove is the fabulous song promo picturised on Imran and Katrina. ‘Choomantar, which was shot all over Delhi, is a treat to watch because it brings out Imran and Katrina’s amazing chemistry. We have some exclusive trivia for you about the shooting of the sequence!

For the song, a fun sequence was shot in the VIP area of South Delhi with Katrina riding an open rickshaw without support. A number of VIPs onlookers stopped in their tracks when they saw Imran and Katrina going wild and crazy while shooting for the song.
