Katrina Kaif speaks about preparing for the role of a lifetime in Raajneeti, and how she enjoys light-hearted roles

She’s Bollywood’s hit machine, who has a great strike rate at the box office, playing the typical Hindi film heroine with flou rish. Now, Katrina Kaif changes track with a realistic portrayal in sensitive filmmaker Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti. In a freewheeling chat, she talks about the movie, what politics means to her, and more.

The industry is abuzz that it was none other than Aamir Khan, the perfectionist super star of bollywood playing the main lead in Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘3 Idiots’ opposite Kareena Kapoor, who caused the ouster of the trailer of Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Rajneeti’ from the interval slot of ‘3 Idiots’.

Sources close to Aamir Khan say that he never likes to share the limelight with anyone else be it an individual or trailer of Prakash Jha’s ‘Rajneeti’. In this case, Aamir Khan felt that as ‘Rajneeti’ starred latest heartthrobs Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor, it would take the focus away from ‘3 Idiots,’ and so it was better to remove the trailer altogether from interval slot.

After a slew of out and out comedies like Namastey London, Partner and Singh Is Kinng, Katrina Kaif is now working on two “difficult” films – Prakash Jha’s political drama Rajneeti and Rajkumar Santoshi’s romantic comedy Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani- and the actress wants to devote extra time and thought to the projects.

“This year I would like to allocate time to big films. The kind of films I am doing – Rajneeti and Ajab Prem… are a little more difficult. They need time and also a little more thought process,” said Katrina. The films are slated for release this year.

Taking a jibe at suggestions on the similarities between Katrina Kaif’s role in upcoming film ‘Rajneeti’ and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, director Prakash Jha says saree is worn by many politicians and it is unfair to draw a parallel.

“Except ‘Behenji’ Mayawati, so many women politicians, such as Jayalalitha, Mamta Bannejee wear sarees. So how can you say that the character is based on Sonia Gandhi? These are only speculations,” says the director, who is also contesting Lok Sabha elections from Bettiah constituency in Bihar.
