June 26, 2009, (Sawf News) - Katrina Kaif gave her girl next door image a new dimension with below the belt casualness at a New York press meet at PVR, Phoenix Mills, on Friday June 26, the opening day of the film.

She was accompanied by co-stars John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh; and director Kabir Khan.

The trio was in high spirits as the movie opened to a huge start at Mumbai multiplexes. Interestingly, patrons who had braved the rush to buy tickets for the film’s evening show, chose to stick around outside PVR to catch a glimpse of the stars, instead of watching the film.

Katrina, 24, wore a poetic number reminiscent of vintage romance. The cyan mini crochet dress with cinched high waist had square neckline and elbow length puff sleeves, with bobbin lace trim on the neck and sleeves.

She accessorized with black thong slippers with studded front and ankle straps, a statement pendant necklace and a kabala inspired red thread in her left arm.

She debuted her short bangs with her long dark layered cut hair styled in loose waves. She wore light makeup keeping focus on her eyes with heavy clumpy mascara.

John is off his crutches and looked slim in his Psychotechnic Tee and dark blue jeans. Neil wore a statement New York city tie with white Quik Silver long sleeve shirt and blue faded jeans.

Katrina is quite happy playing Maya in New York as she can easily identify with the role, and didn’t need to be dolled up for an escapist effect.

Last week at a private screening of the film, for the film’s cast, director and the producer, Katrina broke down while seeing the film and her portrayal in it.

“It was embarrassing. This has never happened to me before. I was deeply moved by the film. And I couldn’t believe what my director Kabir Khan had achieved in my performance. I kept staring at myself. ‘That’s me!’ I exclaimed at the end of the film.”

Katrina is currently filming for Parkash Jha’s Rajneeti with co-stars Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar, Naseeruddin Shah, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Ranbir Kapoor.

Her next release will be Aajab Prem ki Gajab Kahani directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi with co-star Ranbir Kapoor followed by De Dhana Dhan directed by Priyadarshan with co-stars Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Neha Dhupia, Paresh Rawal and Sameera Reddy.
